Castle Wood

The brief

Castle Wood Primary, a 2-form entry school based in Lincolnshire, approached us to create a library that their students could feel comfortable and relaxed in whilst reading. They wanted a practical solution where reading would be taken seriously, yet still wanted to achieve a bright, happy learning space for their young students.

Our solution

Keeping in mind the versatile way that children learn, we separated the library into 3 areas – a booth and integrated table for group learning, a casual reading space in front of a lovely large window and a ‘teacher-led’ learning area with foldaway desks and chairs that sit in front of a whiteboard.

Taking flexibility into consideration, we supplied curved units on gliders that can easily be moved to create another group learning environment and we also ensured we provided plenty of storage for all the books.

The end result was a bright, airy and colourful library where students can happily choose to read quietly and independently or interact in a group setting.

Following on from the success of the library, we have gone on to kit out two classrooms with desks, chairs, soft seating and tray storage units. And we have been asked to redesign two new reception areas with bespoke reception desks for Castle Wood and another site within the same Academy.

Appris

The brief

Appris approached us to assist with the refurbishment of several of their training rooms. Being a company who deliver Engineering Manufacture Apprenticeships and offer commercial courses in Management, Personal Development and Health & Safety, Appris were really looking for a modern update to their rooms that was in-line with the work they do, whilst being conducive to learning.

Our solution

Supplying all furniture, carpets, interior decorating and wall branding, simplicity was key in our design thought-process. We wanted to make sure the training rooms were as free from distractions as possible, to allow for an excellent learning environment.

Having contacted us during the pandemic, we also needed to make sure we kept social distancing and safety at the forefront of our plans.

We swapped out the original colourful décor in favour of a much simpler muted colour scheme and provided all office desks on wheels to allow for easy transitions between group and individual learning.

The client

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you for the excellent work you and the ACS team have done with the classroom makeovers here at Appris. The feedback from staff and learners has been excellent this week and we are delighted with the outcome. Thank you”.
